Through a quantitative and analytic approach to understanding the structure of human language and linguistic diversity, the Department of Linguistics provides students rigorous training in skills that are highly viable in our rapidly changing society. These include the use of analytic and theoretical tools, training to work in collaborative environments, the collection and organization of complex data, and, importantly, a deep appreciation and understanding of the value of a culturally and linguistically diverse environment.
